On Wednesday, April 9, we held our 2nd Mission Committee meeting. While there were several things we discussed, following are 3 of the main topics :
1. We discussed the possibility of assembling and sending of a mission team to Sucre,Bolivia in June or July. After looking at Erik Reyes' travel schedule for this coming summer and discussing the fact that he will actually be visiting us at Center St. in early August, it was decided that we would not send a team down there this summer. Instead, we will look at the possibility of sending a team there in late November or early December this year. I have contacted Erik to notify him that we will not be going down there in July.
2. A second major topic of discussion was the concept of presenting members of the congregation with a variety of needs in West Africa and Bolivia and allowing them to sign up and commit to whatever area they choose. The idea behind this is that members could achieve ownership in the areas of their choosing and be able to communicate with the point people in those specific areas that they support.Members would have the option of giving one time contributions for certain needs and/or sending a monthly support to certain works.I will be discussing this possibility in greater detail with our elders in the very near future.
3. We also discussed the summer trip to Stafford, Kansas. One of our goals in the Stafford trip is to integrate our youth group into this mission effort in a more official way.
